Skistar received in December the permission of the Land and Environmental Court in Östersund to pump more water from Åreälven than before, but the judgment has been appealed by the County Administrative Board of Jämtland, writes Dagens Nyheter.
Concerns relate in particular to skistar been authorized to pump water at lower flow rates than before.
– Just before the spring flood will start the flows are lowest and to low levels can cause damage to fish stocks. we see risks for playgrounds for trout and char, says Sara Huss on the Environmental Protection Department of the provincial government.
The appeal is now before the Land and Environmental Court.
Several other ski resorts in Jämtland Recently, or applied for, a permit to take out more water for the production of artificial snow. Even Salen area has recently received permission to increase its water extraction considerably.
