Solid pupil increase presser Malmö schools – Sydsvenskan

Malmö-equipped already for the number of elementary school students would increase by 5700 until 2019. Then came the refugee crisis. And the prognosis was written up to 8400 new students. Of them begins 2640 years. The increase is described as “historical” in the report which also warns that conditions following the Education Act “severely hampered”.

There is a lack of school facilities, teachers and money.

Needs: Seven new elementary schools in 2016.

Location: Just two becomes clear (see Facts).

Solution: Small classes can be made larger, especially at the high school. The requirements are lowered so that, for example, can build and place pavilions on contaminated land.

– We can never compromise on the risks that may be harmful to health. But we can lower the level of ambition in terms of square meters per child in the outdoor environment, children a toilet – such a man can temporarily accept, says primary Anders Malmquist.

Needs: 3 000 new teachers need to be recruited to 2019.

Location: Impossible, according to the administration.

Solution: To instead recruit other professionals, such as social workers and speech therapists. And creating new assistant services.

– This I am most worried about. The biggest challenge is finding the right people who can help us teach and care for students. We do not do that threatened the quality and indirect fulfillment for students, says Anders Malmquist.

– We discuss hiring graduates with subject knowledge can read the last half of teacher training at halftime, he continues.

– Such as preparation, attendance, contact with parents and orderliness can be other than teachers, said school councilor Anders Rubin (S).

So far, Eight of Malmö seventy schools receiving almost all new arrivals. Now the idea is that all schools should share the responsibility. The so-called proximity principle relaxed for newcomers, which means that students may be bussed to schools in other districts.

– We do not rule out school transport even small children, but we’re not there yet, says Anders Malmquist.

New schools, more staff and special support for newly arrived students costs money.

Buyers: More than a quarter of a billion per year, about half of which so far covered by government grants.

Location: Malmo need get about a hundred million to a year.

Solution: City of Malmö hoping for higher government grants. “Otherwise, it will either cuts or higher taxes,” says Anders Rubin (S).

The report is based on the forecast that the Migration Board did during the refugee crisis Last autumn. Since then, identity cards and border controls, greatly reduced the amount of asylum seekers, which makes the calculations uncertain. Especially in the years after in 2016.

– I’ll admit that I was more worried about a few months ago, says Anders Rubin.

– Then we had an influx of refugees in ten thousand a week . Now we are down the hill and stability in the numbers. There we will meet, provided that the entire community back up.
