Scores of complaints about search – Sydsvenskan

– the Privacy Act does not apply to these sites. It means that at the Data Inspection Board can not have any observations or supervision, says Camilla Sparr, a lawyer for the agency.

No statistics on the number complaints by category, and Data Inspection saves only incoming emails for three months. But a sample of just over a year ago shows that almost a fifth of all e-mail questions concern websites of this kind. It represents over 1 000 e-mails a year. In addition, a considerable amount of phone calls.

– There are many who feel aggrieved that the sites publish so much information about them. They want to be able to choose for themselves what to publish them on the internet, says Camilla Sparr.

She believes that the amount of feedback increases as the search engines add more and more information. Nowadays leave multiple services data on things like vehicle ownership, personal connections and dwelling estimated value.

The past three months have Inspectorate received 136 e-mails about the five above mentioned search engines. More than half, 71 pieces, pipes Merinfo.se. The next highest regard Hitta.se owned by media group Schibsted, which racked up 25 points of view.

Christian Nilsson, Head publisher of Merinfo.se, defends himself against the criticism and says that it is “a drop in the ocean” compared to the number of users who enjoy the service.

– We only compiles public information. We can not determine whether the information should be public or not, he says.

Merinfo.se are in principle not remove any information from the service of his own accord, but says that it is up to the authorities providing the information to determine if it should be hidden. Hitta.se has a different approach:

– If there is anyone who does not want to appear on Hitta.se with certain information so we pick it off. Usually we have corrected it within a day, says CEO Alexander Hann Borderland.
