Ygeman right about rejections – Aftonbladet

The world news media reports today that Sweden will reject tens of thousands of refugees who came here last year. Interior Minister Anders Ygeman expects that, in any case, is about 60,000 people, but is open to it could be 80,000.

It is dramatic numbers. Yet the question is, what is it really in Ygemans statement that is so surprising?

The foundation of the Swedish asylum policy has not changed. To get the stay must have their application approved. This comes after a long and thorough process in which the reasons you entered reviewed on a – hopefully – rule of law.

Every case must be examined

Everyone has the right to have his or her case, but those who receive funding are obviously not entitled to stay in Sweden.

With the current rules, experience suggests that just over half, about 55 percent of the asylum seekers have their applications granted. Almost half of the asylum seekers may not stay in Sweden because their reasons are not considered strong enough.

Converted to last year when 162,000 refugees sought shelter in Sweden we get the Interior Ygemans numbers. Somewhere between 60 000 and 80 000 people will eventually need to return home voluntarily or rejected.

There is basically nothing new. What is new is the actual number. And it is in itself no small thing.

A challenge

The number of asylum seekers is a challenge for Swedish authorities. This applies not only receive system or the integration of those who eventually get their requests granted.

There will be longer processing times, but also new diplomatic challenges and, ultimately, more work for the police.

It will require readmission agreements, social programs and chartered aircraft. We will see tougher rules against employers who exploit illegal workers and police operations to seek out people who felt forced to go underground.

Of course it is controversial, extremely controversial. But the fact is that deportation must work on the Swedish asylum system to work. At the same time the rule of law and humanity also preserved, how many cases as it is about.

The authorities must be ready

Anders Ygeman want the authorities to be ready when last year’s record number of asylum applications are finished. He has of course right in but the question of the refugees to be allowed to stay and what means the community will use to maintain asylum policy is bigger than that.

It concerns us all. Alongside integration, we will in the coming years to discuss asylum, expulsions and police methods. It’s just as well that we get used to.
