Fredrik Svensson, investigators at the University Chancellor’s Office (UKA), says it is not realistic to reach up to 21 000 novices a year, especially as it already is low number of applicants to many specializations. Therefore, other measures than to bring in more of the programs.
A solution could be around the chores imposed on other personnel, so that qualified teachers can better deal with the profession’s core tasks.
– Licensed teachers is becoming a scarce resource that we must conserve as wisely as possible, says Fredrik Svensson to the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.
National Union of Teachers (LR ) are on the same wavelength, and suggests that a new profession, teaching assistants, are employed in schools.
– In this way, teachers have more time for each student and the attractiveness of the teaching profession to increase. There are a lot of administrative tasks, other than the teachers could do, says LR-Chairman Bo Jansson said.
He notes that the increase application pressure to the STT pulled up by a great interest for the pre teaching. Many subject teacher training, by contrast, difficult to fill the seats.
– Therefore, one must do something so that students want to apply to them and that teachers remain in the profession.
He believes that training as a teaching assistant would attract young people who are interested in a shorter education, and who wish to gain an insight into the teaching profession.
– For those who already teach but is unauthorized, it must be reasonable to be that they get training so they can get teacher certification, says Bo Jansson.
