Prime Stefan Löfvens notified that the Social goes to selection alone was surprising – and may be risky. It says political scientist DN has spoken to. “Politicians that changes are not appreciated,” said Peter Esaiasson, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg.
When Stefan Löfven last week announced that extra election will be announced, he also made clear that the budget S and MP presented will serve as the platform for the party’s election campaign. It was clear that the Social Democrats and the Green Party would go to the polls together.
But now fades Stefan Löfven down statements from last week.
Ad:
- The budget is now outdated. It has been voted down and you can not go to the polls right on the budget. Now we have an extra election and then we have the new conditions. But that does not mean I’m going to change politics altogether, he said.
Löfven emphasizes that he has no plans to break cooperation with the MP. But he is also clear that S will conduct the election campaign on their own.
- We go to the polls as the Social Democrats. We sit in a government with the Green Party. We have put a budget together – it is no longer valid for the defeated. The conditions are different, then we have to handle it.
Political scientists who DN talked to was surprised Löfvens vengeance.
- I was very surprised and I think everyone was. It has probably gone very quickly it all, it seems to panic. This could indicate that there is a much greater pressure from within the party than we have noticed, says Jonas Hinnfors, professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg.
- It is very surprising and additionally unusual for a politician changes so quickly. Politicians who changes are not appreciated. The public do not check to politics so often, one distrusts politicians who change their minds, says Peter Esaiasson, also a professor of political science at the University of Gothenburg.
Jenny Madestam is Assistant Professor of Political Science at Stockholm University.
- I am in a way surprised because it initially stuck to the budget. At the same time, it is not surprising. Given the Parliamentary situation, it may be smarter to stand on their own feet altogether.
LO base Karl-Petter Thorwaldsson said in an interview in Thursday’s DN that the Social Democrats should cut ties to the Green Party in the upcoming election campaign. The reason was that cooperation with the MP is likely to complicate the settlements across the block boundary.
- Now also argues Stefan Löfven because it is easier to reach partisan agreements without the Green Party and that may be true. The Green Party has been a thorn in both the Alliance and the Sweden Democrats, says Johan Hinnfors.
Stefan Löfven do not want to respond to what parts of the red-green budget that can be removed in the upcoming election campaign.
- In area after area, we would have made a difference with our budget, which unfortunately was voted down. It is clear that I do not change policies just because it has been outvoted. However, I am in a different situation now, says Stefan Löfven.
Jenny Madestam says voters may perceive it as negative to Stefan Löfven looks to be influenced by public opinion against the MP cooperation.
- But it can also be seen as a positive listen to what major players are saying. Now is about to go home with the electorate so it does not appear to be confusing. And so he needs, and S to focus on bringing a strong policy which is about grasping the social problems that exist in Sweden.
Green Party party secretary Anders Wallner said in a written comment that the MP and S is consistent.
- We will conduct election campaign that own parties, but our common goal is obviously to continue the coalition government.
