Concern over school proposals for new arrivals – Västerbotten Courier

The proposals to change the rules to make it easier for municipalities and private schools to receive several newly arrived students receive criticism.

The proposed rule changes mean that municipalities should be given greater freedom to distribute pupils between schools and the private schools of the queue to be able to introduce a special quota for newcomers.

But the discrimination ombudsman (DO) is critical.

– What we want to flag is that there is a real risk that municipalities understand this as that will create ethnically mixed classes, says Martin Dark at the DO to the teachers’ magazine.

– There is a problem, because under the discrimination Act may not take the kind of ethnic considerations.

the proposals, unveiled recently, is out for consultation now. Other respondents are generally positive to them.

The background to the proposals is that today takes a very small percentage of the country’s schools receive a large part of the newly arrived students.
