The son was shot dead – now they want to stop the violence in Gothenburg – Swedish Radio

Stop the violence and invest in the suburb. That is the message of a manifestation of the Bishop’s Palace in Gothenburg on Saturday – a month after the shooting in a restaurant that killed two and injured ten. Behind the initiative are the parents of Petar Petrovic, 20, who by chance ended up in one of the balls the way.

– It gives us the strength to think about how he was as a person and the joy that he gave us, says his mother Katerina Petrovic.

On a shelf in the living room of the apartment in the Bishop’s Palace stands Petars photo in a gold frame with black silk ribbon around. There is he a part of the family and Katerina often look there when she talks about him.

– We would like to think that he is still present, he is a guardian angel, specifically for his little brother, says Katerina Petrovic.

It was in the evening March 18 as the two men stepped in and shot with automatic weapons at a restaurant on Vårväderstorget in the Bishop’s Palace. Two men were killed and a dozen people were injured.

The shooting is about a showdown between criminal gangs and 20-year-old Petar had the bad luck to get in the way of the bullets. Now the parents take up the struggle against the senseless violence seriously mean Miroslav Petrovic.

– I do not want crime to be the only model for young people. Therefore, we have started with this and there will be more demonstrations, sports tournaments, dance contests and much more, says Miroslav Petrovic.

Tomorrow gather in the street outside Petars parents for a joint march through the district to the square where his son’s life so abruptly ended. There, among other things, speech and music.

It becomes a manifestation against violence and segregation and to show young people that there is hope. Katerina Petrovic hope this can become a pretext.

– I think people have had enough and want to be with. It has to start somewhere and maybe this is the Bishop’s Palace, she says.
