The woman and the child died on Saturday night in connection with a birth in the Central Hospital in Växjö. What is behind the deaths are not investigated, and for the sake of the families, the hospital is frugal with the details of what led to the tragedy.
– Above all, our thoughts go to the victims family and relatives. But this is terrible for everyone involved, says press secretary Stefan Ahlrik the region Kronoberg.
It is rare that this happens in Sweden. According to the National Board there are six cases between 2005 and 2014 where the mother died during childbirth and the baby was stillborn or died within the first six days. The figures come from the Medical Birth Register and the Cause of Death Register and to women registered in Sweden.
The event in Växjö will be investigated internally, a process that started already on Sunday. And the incident will be reported in accordance with Lex Maria.
