Easter is celebrated with candy chills – Aftonbladet

Candy. In Sweden, Easter is not about Jesus’ suffering, lamb or even eggs. Swedish Easter is all about the candy. But there are signs that the total candy consumption turned down.

Swedes belong to the world elite in eating sweets. According to the Board of Agriculture figures slams us in our 16 kg sweets were for one year. A family of four consumes 1.2 kilograms candy week. This represents a doubling over the past 50 years and is the most in the world, according to the book “Candy for the people – a book about how the Swedes were sugar slaves in Candyking’s realm.”

But according Agriculture’s preliminary statistics of the so-called direct consumption of chocolate and confectionery consumption declined drastically in 2014, from about 17 kilograms per person to more than 14 kg.

– But this is preliminary figures, it is too early to draw firm conclusions, says Monica Eidstedt on Agriculture.

Overall, including chocolate, Christmas is the year’s biggest candy weekend. But Easter is smågodisets feast. Candy giant Cloetta increase its sales of bulk candy by 140 per cent compared to the other months.
