Suspected cyber attack beating out several major news sites – Sveriges Radio

Expressen’s managing editor Thomas Mattsson confirms on Twitter that there is a cyber attack in progress: “It is very serious that the Swedish news sites attacked. But someone wants to stop news coverage confirms its value.”

Currently, the cause to the simultaneous disruption of the major news sites unknown, but evidence suggests that it is about a coordinated hacker attack, called a denial of service.

Police Albin Birch bark Berg does not confirm definitely the case of a cyber attack. But because there are so many media who suffered so police have launched a criminal investigation. Security Service is informed, but it is the Stockholm police holding investigation.

Aftonbladet, Expressen, Dagens Nyheter, the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, Dagens Industri, Sydsvenskan and Helsingborgs Dagblad during the evening were suspended in whole or in part.

just before the sites stopped working was an anonymous Twitter account out threats of attacks in the coming days against the Swedish authorities and the media as “spreading false propaganda”.

” this is what happens when you spread false propaganda Aftonbladet.se offline # @ Aftonbladet “, tweet an anonymous account at 20 o’clock today.

Karin Olsson, , deputy editor at Expressen says they suffered serious disruption.

– The site has been knocked out, it can not be updated. Almost all of Sweden’s news sites have experienced the same problem this type of massive exclusion, we have never seen in Expressen. It is an extremely serious situation we have right now, she says.

– All indications are that there is a deliberate attack, is really no other way that this can happen, says Karin Olsson.

According to IT expert Robert Malmgren is denial difficult to guard against if you are not prepared, but Swedish media and authorities are getting better and better at protecting themselves.

– but this will be a wake, this must taken seriously, he said.

Måns Nilsson, the Swedish Radio’s IT department began to go in and check data when he first heard about a possible planned attack. He tells Echo that he promptly at 19:30 saw that it started to go very much traffic, signs of a so-called denial of service. Swedish Radio seems to have been affected.

– The only information I have is that traffic has increased slightly, but I think it’s about people looking for information, rather than that it would be an attack, says Måns Nilsson.

According to the statistics of the company Netnod data traffic from Russian Internet providers have increased dramatically during the evening. It does not mean that the attack originated in Russia, but points to it or those behind the various ways has directed the attack by land, or made use of virus-infected Russian computers.

While IT expert Robert Malmgren stresses that it is important not to point fingers.

– the traffic coming from that direction could also be because there are computers attached to the network. So it may be that the traffic coming from that direction, but it says nothing about what is the source, he says.
