Newborn lived without heat and water – Free Newspapers

A homeless EU migrants with a baby was repeatedly told that she could not get accommodation but only repatriation paid. Social Services in Malmö have now registered themselves for not having taken into account the child’s best interests.

After the baby is born arranged accommodation for mother and baby during a period. It was during last summer, but in the fall they were both back in a caravan without access to heat, electricity or running water.

The woman has, according to the notification, on several occasions been informed that she was not entitled to assistance from social services and that the only help she can get a ride home. The decision has been motivated by a ticket to their home country would be sufficient to social service shall have fulfilled its responsibilities to-accept children who reside in the municipality. But in the lex Sarah-notification now been prepared and submitted to the Agency for Health Care, IVO, says the responsible child and a woman’s right-ssäkerhet have been infringed.

– We have not done the right at all times, says Rikard Vroland, head for the individual and the family of urban area Inner City.

Why did you have an infant to be without accommodation?

– I can not comment on this specific case. But it is difficult for our staff to handle these kinds of cases, and in some respects we have done wrong, in others it involves interpretations of the law.

Woman requests for accommodation has not always been treated, as social services are always required to do. When it comes to assessing what an EU citizen residing in Sweden have the right to assistance it will be expanding range, says Richard Vroland.

– But in retrospect, I can say that children should be entitled to assistance differently than adults.

Does this mean that all children have the right to housing?

– Yes, but it is an acute period until the situation can be resolved by the return home.

Sara Tunander , former Director of fact, questions the social service attitude that children should only be given temporary housing solutions.

– Children become suffering of not having a permanent home, they need security. In most cases there is no home to go to, and the child’s situation would not get better than this.

Through his previous work on the fact she came in contact with the woman and child who lived in a caravan without either running water, electricity or heat.

– Imagine living without running water with a newborn – it is inconceivable for most of us.

Sara Tuna Flinders experience is that no one from the social initially wanted to take the expectant mother’s situation.

– She was totally heartbroken.

There is still too little knowledge in the social services when it comes to the group of EU citizens, according to Sara Tunander.

– I understand that this is a rather unusual situation. But it will probably be more children to EU citizens here who need help.

When last fall became colder took Sara Tunander contact with social services jour which Fixed some occasional overnight stays. Today, mother and child in an orderly living outside Malmö.

– Right now it seems to have resolved itself but the future of this child? Will it grow up as paperless in Sweden? Who is responsible for it to have a safe upbringing? The situation seems hopeless unfortunately right as it looks today, says Sara Tunander.
