Last year seized a record number of weapons in West Bengal. The government wants to take action to rectify the problems with gun crime in the country, it says Interior Minister Anders Ygeman after yesterday’s shootings in Gothenburg.

When the tougher weapons penalties was introduced last year was a hope that it would be easier to get at organized crime . But Interior Minister Anders Ygeman believes that further measures are needed to deal with the problems of gang-related crime.
– We must be better able to use what we call the secret surveillance, ie wiretapping and dubbing, to tackle gun crime. We must have an active role in the EU to have a license duty of deactivated weapons that can be reactivated in Sweden. We must also strengthen police and customs work against the illegal weapons, says Anders Ygeman.
in Västra Götaland were seized 295 guns last year, and it is more than any previous year of 2000 century. This, according to police statistics echo aware of. 36 of the weapons seized were automatic weapons. The increase is partly due to the venture Safe Gothenburg launched after a double homicide in Bishop’s Palace in September 2013.
The statistics include both Police and Customs’ seizures, and police accounts for the largest share. 30 of the 295 weapons were seized in customs.
