The government wants to reduce the number of counties in Sweden. Changes in population structure, lifestyles and socioeconomic conditions warrant such a reform considers the civilian Minister Ardalan Shekarabi (S) in the DN.
Ten years ago there were plans for a more radical reduction in the number of counties and county councils and 2007 suggested Ansvarsutredningen a new division in Sweden in six regions.
But the proposal provoked an outcry, including Gotland and was then lying on the ice.
