Glasses are free for children – Metro

The Government proposes in the upcoming budget that all children up to 19 years with a visual impairment to get free glasses.

The announcement comes after a settlement with the Left Party, and the new rules will apply from the beginning of the year.

– We think that Aids is a right and glasses is a tool, says Left Party’s economic policy spokesperson Ulla Andersson, to SVT.

The government estimates that glasses contribution, addressed to upwards of 150 000 children between 8 and 19 years, will cost 120 million dollars per year. Previously, the county council has offered children under 8 years free glasses.

The Children’s rights Mayflower, who has long pushed the issue, welcomes the news.

– This is fantastic news. We have identified this issue on the basis that many children have previously applied for grants for glasses with us, says Secretary-General in May Holm.
