Neighboring bark beetle threatens forest in the south – Västerbotten Courier

There are still storm-damaged trees left in Blekinge forests after the storm egos. Board of Forestry is now warning that it could trigger large infestation of the dreaded spruce bark beetle, reports SVT Blekinge New.

These beetles thrive in storm-damaged forest and thrive under the bark. They can kill the whole tree and represents a significant threat to the forest.

– We must keep this insect under control. It is natural, but it must not become mass propagation of it then we get great economic damage to forests, says Helene Reiter, skogsvårdskonsulent the Forest Agency, to SVT.
