Four of the nine environmental limits are exceeded – Västerbotten Courier

Now exceeded four of the nine planetary boundaries, says researchers at Stockholm University in the journal Science. The reason is that we humans have an increasing impact on the climate and environment and that we nibble too hard on the earth’s resources.

The concept of the planet’s sustainable limits was first published in 2009 and they put his finger on the environmental processes that control soil stability . The limits now exceeded, climate change, biodiversity loss, land use change and changing biogeochemical fluxes of nitrogen and phosphorus.

Exceeding these limits may, according to the researchers, result in the complex interactions between land, sea , atmosphere, ice sheets biodiversity and humans destabilized, which could push the Earth system into a new state.
