The defense requires three billion extra – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

The defense flagged already before Christmas that it does not have enough resources to implement the changes Defence Commission wants to see because of the new security situation in the Swedish environment.

Supreme Commander Sverker Göransson specified when the five steps that he believes are most needed.

These included other personal equipment for soldiers, more exercise for defense and automotive and medical equipment.

Neither Defence Minister Peter Hultqvist or Supreme Commander has previously wanted to go out with what those measures might cost. Neither of the major conference Population and defense, held in Salen ten days ago, was given no expense forecast.

But now experiencing SVT that there are three billion additional per year. This amount has not figured out the required investments in new JAS Gripen aircraft and submarines.

On 2 February, the Government and Alliance parties begin negotiations on new defense policy decision. The new price tag will be a starting point for negotiations, according to SVT.

Currently missing further scope for reform of the defense in the state budget and the increased appropriations for defense spending demands must therefore be financed through tax increases or savings, says SVT.
