V can stop the third daddy month – Swedish Radio

V can stop the third daddy month – Swedish Radio

It is uncertain whether the government’s forthcoming legislative proposal to introduce an additional so-called daddy month in parental insurance has support in Parliament. The Liberal Party will vote yes, but the Left is in the current state is not prepared to endorse the proposal.

– The government has not negotiated or contacted us about this bill. We will not give our passive support to a government bill unless we have been involved in negotiating it. I assume that the Left in that case will go forward with its own motion calling for a completely individualized parental leave, for that is what is needed if we are to deal with the large differences in income, salary and pension between men and women, says the Left Party group leader Hans Linde.

“As a step towards an egalitarian use of parental insurance, a third month reserved for each parent,” said Prime Minister Stefan Löfven in his first government statement last fall . And now in our add the red-green government a concrete legislative proposals in the Riksdag.

The Liberal Party went to the polls to introduce yet another so-called daddy month, and have decided to go against the other Alliance parties and support the government’s bill .

– If the proposal only contains it, so we will vote for it. It is our opinion that we should have an additional earmarked months of parental benefit, says party leader Jan Björklund.

But despite support from the Liberal Party is uncertain whether there will be any third daddy month from the 1 January 2016. The Moderate Party, the Centre Party, the Christian Democrats and the Sweden Democrats are against more earmarked months.

Now, therefore, the Left Party group leader Hans Linde that the government can not calculate with support from his party either. The Left wants to legislate for the parents to share the entire parental leave equally.

– We will first of all that going forward with our own policy, unless the government is willing to negotiate with us. Then we will go forward with proposals for an individualisation of parental insurance. Government wants to get broader support in parliament for its proposals and propositions, then one must also reasonably contact other party and be prepared to negotiate.

What would you like out of such a negotiation?

– We can see that a third paternity month is not enough. We see the need for much larger step than that, if we are to come to grips with the fundamental inequality we have today in Sweden between men and women.
