On Friday took the Minister for Social Annika Strandhäll and children, the elderly and Gender Åsa Regnér against the Romanian Minister of Labour, Family, Social Protection and older, Rovana Plumb. On the agenda included discussing the vulnerable situation of the Romanian EU migrants.
At the press conference after the meeting, the parties announced that “they had constructive talks” and that they have agreed to continue to work together – something to be manifested because they sign a contract in the spring, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Among other things, they seem to tie Swedish municipalities closer to Romanian.
As recently as last spring broke the dialogue between Romania and the then Swedish government together. Something that former democracy minister Birgitta Ohlsson said made her both “angry and sad.”
Now call Rovana Plumb the Swedish Ministers for “their friends”.
– The Romanian government wants continued cooperation and dialogue both bilaterally and at EU level, she said.
Some more concrete information than that was not given. In contrast, took Rovana Plumb this opportunity to tell you about the efforts that have been made in Romania since 2012 to improve the situation of the Roma. This includes about increased child benefit, rise in minimum wages and investments in housing.
But when the minister was asked what Romania is doing to combat the prejudices against Roma in Romania, she did not answer.
– There is no discrimination in Romania, she said instead.
A statement that may Fred Taikon, president of the cultural association É Romani Glinda to react.
– I think it is ridiculous that the Romanian ministers of various kinds that come to Sweden deny that there is widespread discrimination against Roma. It is housebroken to openly discriminate against Roma in Romania, he said.
Why do you think the minister denies it?
– Because she is not a politician but rather a minister who wants to defend his ministry. Had she been a real politician, she had said that there is a problem they will work with.
Peace Taikon also think it is strange that the Minister was not prepared for this type of issue.
– They must have understood that the debate on EU migrants in Sweden. To say that discrimination does not occur is pure lie, he said.
