A new non-surgical method to remove painful fibroids in the uterus, called fibroids, are now being tested at the University Hospital in Uppsala.

To burn off fibroids with ultrasound without the patient having to undergo surgery, has been used for about ten years in Europe . This is the first time you try it in Sweden in collaboration between women’s and radiology departments at the University Hospital.
Professor Håkan Ahlström is one of those responsible for the clinical study to investigate whether ultrasound method can be introduced in Sweden
– It combines magnetic resonance imaging with ultrasound used to burn away the tissue. With the magnetic camera help localize we myomet, then we make sure that the temperature is sufficiently high in myomet, but not in the surrounding tissue, he said.
Anna’s doctor said that her fibroids were approximately ten centimeters in diameter and low in the front of the uterus. It would be possible to deal with the new technology and she was asked if she was interested:

– Yes it’s mostly women before the menopause who have one or more fibroids no greater than twelve inches in diameter . And they must be located right next to the abdominal wall, so there are some limiting factors.
And Anna was happy with the treatment:
– all, I was quite nervous, even if it is not was surgery, but I was going to be first patient in Sweden. But it was huge mildly. The toughest thing was to lie on her stomach so long, so it felt in the back. But the treatment itself was virtually painless. And I could go from there the same day and work the next day.
