Supply Requirements for family immigration and language requirements for citizenship. There are some proposals in the Liberal Party took place in Dagens Nyheter today. GP’s policy reporter Gunilla Grahn-Hinnfors answers three questions about opening lead

Why will this now?

That it will took place in migration policy right now is of course related to the election and with the fact that the number of refugees worldwide is the largest since World War II. The only party that did a really good choice was the Sweden Democrats who run a very restrictive immigration policy. Meanwhile flagging many, especially at the municipal level, to housing and job missing out in the country. The parties have not talked much about inclusion, not really the SD either – they just want to reduce the number who come here.

Now both the Christian Democrats and the Liberal Party made statements in the integration. Both these parties did really bad election results and try to reverse the trend by taking up an issue that has been increasingly politicized. The Ogle certainly also on SD’s success and hope to lure back a number of bourgeois voters who went to SD.

FP’s part is language requirement Moreover, an oldie from the pantry. In the 2002 election became FP third largest party after Leijonborg in the election campaign raised the language requirement. For today’s Liberals have 13.3 percent election results seem dizzying high.

What could be the purpose of opening lead?

The purpose is to give the parties a boost in opinion. Now is the time for both FP and KD trying to profile a policy that can make parts visible again after eight years in the shadow of the Moderate Party. These are questions that can not really agree on the Alliance and therefore, they have not really come to the fore during the eight years that the four Alliance parties were in power. Neither Jan Björklund and Göran Hägglund has so much to lose. If they fail, fast, reverse the trend, they will be replaced as party leader. The maneuvers are a bit of last chance.

Do you see anything controversial in the proposals?

In particular, the proposals for temporary residence permits perceived by the red-green as controversial and counterproductive. People who do not know whether they can stay more difficult to integrate, goes the reasoning. Many also reacts to the link between work and residence permits. Veronica Palm (S) called FP’s gambit for a dark brown dog whistle politics. Then will surely debate to be raised about how best to learn Swedish, just as it did in 2002. Should it be the carrot or the stick?

Earlier research has shown that the more parties that raises the question of migration policy, the more benefit the party which has its main issue, in this case, SD. But I saw today that the Timbro-affiliated political scientist Andreas Johansson Heinö was hesitant if it’s still true. There is in all cases a fear of many and has long put the lid on even the integration debate.
