Police recovered children at school – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

The nine year old boy was playing with his schoolmates during a break in New Rocket School in Kiruna on Tuesday when his parents showed up in the schoolyard to pick him up. A short distance away, on the school parking, the police stood and waited. The family would be deported.

After calling the boy they went on to Bergaskolan, also located in Kiruna, to retrieve his brother, writes Aftonbladet.

Where did the police into the school building.

– He had a lesson. The police knocked on the door of the classroom and parents walked in and picked him up, says the school’s director Anders Karlsson told the newspaper.

The two parents and their four children were then run directly to the airport to be deported to Kyrgyzstan, the family’s home country.

actions of the police is criticized by the head teacher and parents on Bergaskolan.

– This is a question about the students’ safety. We at the school engaged in learning and that requires trust and security. Then no newcomer pupils need to worry that they can be picked up by police, said Karlsson Aftonbladet.

A father of one of nioåringens classmates tells the newspaper that the students did not have time to say goodbye to the boy, and that many of the kids are scared of the event. But Kiruna Police defends his actions, saying that they acted under special circumstances. Parents should be informed about the date of the expulsion but still sent away the two sons to school, according to police.

Under the Aliens Act is not forbidden for the police to go into schools and retrieve children to be expelled. But we generally try to avoid such an approach.

– We try, whenever we have families, to fetch them early in the morning, before the family had time to go off to work and school. Of view of the child and to execute the deportation order as smoothly as possible, says Per Uno Johansson, at the border police in Stockholm, told SvD.

He would not comment on the Kiruna actions of the police at Tuesday’s expulsion.

According to Elin Brunell , a lawyer at the National Agency, nor is there any provision in the Education Act that prevents police from downloading undocumented children in schools. But she sees a conflict between the school and the police mission in such cases.

– There is a tension between an authority, whose task is to enforce the expulsion order, looking at the school, while the school’s mission is to ensure to all children have the right to education. The school also has a responsibility to create a safe environment, she says.

Events those at schools in Kiruna threaten to hamper efforts to provide education to all children in Sweden, according Elin Brunell.

– There is a risk that some parents do not dare to send their children to school tomorrow. These children are in an incredibly vulnerable position as they have not chosen themselves. Where should the school be a security, after all, and when such incidents risk of such work to be demolished. Even in schools where this has not happened, she said.
