Whining on municipalities by ice – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

Whining on municipalities by ice – Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet

But that’s easier said than done, according to the park and street boss Tommy estate.

The newspapers took to CATCH-WORD as “slip chaos” and “fracture chaos”. Over coffee table and through social media have people annoyed over the past few days the icy sidewalks, slippery footpaths and cycle paths and accused local authorities of not sending properly.

Tommy estate, park and street manager in Örebro , nuanced picture:

– It is difficult to be prepared for extreme conditions, he says.

That which occurred in several parts of the country where it first snowed, then it became thaw and so it was less again and slush turned to ice.

– ice is the absolute worst case scenario we have. Firstly, you can not plow it away, and will change in the weather so fast, says Tommy Karlqvist said.

The result was that lots of people fell down and that many fell so badly that they had to fractures.

The societal costs benbrotten causes is twice as high as municipal expenditures for winter road, hit the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute established a few years ago. So what’s the problem? Why do municipalities are not more resources to combating slippery?

Tommy estate and Örebro municipality may illustrate that the problem is not simply.

Örebro municipality has about 100 machines available for winter road maintenance. There are own machines and those they hire.

– We have about as many as there are to get hold of the market. But let’s say we had 100 machines to standby, then we would have to pay huge sums of money just to have them in store, says Tommy estate.

He definitely think that local authorities should take their responsibility but recalls that in many municipalities, property owners responsible for shoveling, sweeping and sand sidewalks and walkways outside the property.

Ulrika Appelbergsvägen, an expert on infrastructure issues at the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions, think it would be good if municipalities clearly informs what part of the winter road they stand for and that they inform the snowfall and sudden ice what to do and how long it is likely to take.

– They can not be everywhere at once, she says.
