The explanation is that girls are more stubborn.
Girls tend to nag to the money from the parents to a greater extent than boys – money that parent then regret it gave. Girls also manages to nag to unnecessarily expensive stuff and clothes from their parents, and more often buy things that they regret.
It is common that parents make up clear rules for weekly or monthly allowance with boys than with girls, shows a survey by TNS Sifo, commissioned by the Savings Bank and Swedbank.
A ten year old receives an average of around SEK 150 monthly allowance, and a 17-year-old get about a thousand. The survey shows that it is not uncommon for children to get several tens more in addition to monthly allowance from their parents, including to help at home.
As many as 64 percent of the 1 500 children who participated in the survey have a relative or parent who deposit money in an account that the child itself can not reach.
74 percent of children between 10 and 17 years own money as they decide over themselves.
