The number of unaccompanied children seeking help from Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (BUP) in Stockholm has doubled in a few years. Suicidal ideation, anxiety, insomnia and stress are some of the problems, writes Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet.
From 2014 to 2015, the number who sought help from 143 to 321. This year alone, 246 unaccompanied children had been in contact with BUP in Stockholm.
many people carry the trauma in their home countries, but also the asylum process affects and the BUP believed that cases are more when the asylum rules are tightened.
– A deportation order activates many emotions, such as anxiety and concern about the future. A feeling that everything was in vain, says Mikael Billing, unit manager and psychologist at the Asylum Unit within the BUP in Stockholm, told the newspaper.
