PFAS, a group of extremely long-lived highly fluorinated chemicals, among other things used in firefighting foam, has contaminated groundwater in several locations in Sweden. 2014 urged the municipalities to investigate whether drinking water was affected by seven of the so-called PFAS substances.
Now is the time to look for more. NFA want the municipalities to investigate whether additional four PFAS substances can be found in the drinking water, writes authority in a press release. The reason is that the substances been replaced with new chemicals that certainly breaks down easier, but in some cases may have similar characteristics as the original chemicals.
PFAS substances have contaminated drinking water so much that you had to take water from use in both Tullinge in Stockholm and in Kallinge Blekinge.
