Attempted arson attack on the mosque in Uppsala – Swedish Radio

A burning object, called a Molotov cocktail was thrown against the mosque in Svartbäcken early morning.

According to emergency services so self extinguished the fire before they came to the place. The police are ready on the spot and will now go through the technical investigation has been done. No person has been arrested, but did witness a person on the spot.

– It was around 5:30 pm police received an emergency, they had seen a person who threw an object towards the facade and that it then burned along the facade. When we got there we found that it had burned but there was no one left then, says Lisa True Ervik, police spokesperson.

There was no person in the mosque in the morning.

– Now we will analyze the traces we have been able to secure in place. We have a number of witnesses to the event too, but it is the track we have to process right now.

Given what happened to the other mosques in the country recently, there has been no threat against the mosque?

– So far we have no known motive, but it’s certainly not no coincidence, given what has happened around the country.

– We have started preliminary investigation into the attempted arson, but also vandalism and hate speech in view of the graffiti that were on the entrance doors to the mosque, said Lisa True Ervik, Police spokesperson.

According to TT, this is the eighth attack in three months against mosques in Sweden. The most noted was the fire in Eskilstuna on Christmas Day, when five people were taken to hospital.
