Swedish Foreign Ministry puts pressure on Saudi Arabia – Aftonbladet

The pressure on Saudi Arabia to release the jailed blogger Raif Badawi increases.

Now confirms Foreign Minister Ms Wallström to the Foreign Ministry to call the country’s ambassador in Stockholm to protest against the government pryglingen.

950 lashes remains for the Saudi blogger and activist Raif Badawi.

He has been sentenced for insulting Islam and the penalty is in addition a total of 1,000 lashes, ten years in prison.

Several human rights organizations have criticized Saudi Arabia and rallies have been held around the world the past week.

The EU has condemned the verdict, the United States has appealed to Saudi Arabia and the UK to take up the case with ambassadpesonal.



“Direct Dialogue Continues”

Although Sweden is putting pressure – both in place in Stockholm and in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh.

– We have expressed our condemnation in direct dialogue with Saudi Arabia and we will continue to protest, says Erik Boman, Press Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margot Wallström.

Earlier this week, reported Daily News that Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Sweden Ibrahim SI Alibrahim shall be summoned to the Foreign Ministry to receive an official protest. It confirms today Foreign Minister Wallström to the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. She would not say when the meeting is scheduled.

Swedish Amnesty International has launched a protest campaign against the whipping penalty.
