Since 2012, police have video surveillance of the crime affected sites Civic Square and Stureplan in the city. Now it has been authorized by the provincial government that even camera monitor certain suburbs around the clock.
Four cameras are planned at Rinkeby center, four in Tensta center and two at Spånga station.
The news of the camera meets both positive and negative reactions among the residents in Tensta and Rinkeby. Police believe that the cameras are important in fighting organized crime in western Stockholm.
- We need to stop the violence. We have assessed the crime and the problem is so widespread in these areas, says Niclas Andersson, head of the local police, to SVT.
Data Inspection Board has appealed decision and the state will now be considered by the Administrative Court.
