Researchers critical of the guidelines for the treatment of depression – Sveriges Radio

We reject the way they have made the proposal on their way to evaluate research and also to their ways of thinking about what psychotherapy is, ” says Rolf Holmqvist.

In december, the national Board of health submitted the proposal for new guidelines for the treatment of depression and anxiety. The new recommendations are out for consultation and is supposed to take effect in the fall.

In the proposal, among other things, cognitive behavioural therapy, or CBT, a pre-eminent place, despite the fact that other treatments is at least as good, writes the seventeen nordic researchers on DN Debate.

the Critics also believe to the new councils for serious depression only contains biological treatments such as antidepressant medications and electroconvulsive therapy. In Denmark, for example, recommended the medication in combination with psychotherapy.

The Danish guidelines are based on studies that the national Board of health ignored, the researchers say.

– We want you to put this proposal aside, do get in outside experts who are impartial and who then tries to modify the proposal, ” says Rolf Holmqvist.
