RIGHT NOW: Young woman died in the fire that rages in the timber town – the Swedish Radio

At eleven o’clock worked between 80 and 100 firefighters at the fire in Eksjö.
– We have called in people from all over the county, says Thomas Ljunggren, fire.

The fire started in an apartment on Vaxblekargränd Eksjö. The alarm about the fire came at ten of six and since then there have been 50-60 firefighters on the scene to fight the blaze.

– It is a fully developed fire in central Eksjö. When we arrived it burned through the roof, says Jerker Sture Dahl, team leader of the emergency services in Jönköping.

A person found in the burning house, and police confirmed at half past nine o’clock P4 Jönköping that it was a young woman and that she had died. Relatives are informed and are in the hospital.

The house where the woman was found is irreparably damaged.
– And that the house sits together with other houses in a row that is 25 by 25 meters, said Thomas Ljunggren, who fire protection engineer is in place.

At eleven o’clock the fire was not yet under control.
– No, not in the barracks where the fire is, however, we are able to resist it spreading to other houses, as it stands now, says Thomas Ljunggren.

200 people live in houses that burn or adjacent to the fire.
– We have tried to shout and call and get the people out of the real estate in around. We call on doors and try to ensure that there is no one left, told Jerker Sture Dahl of emergency in the morning.

A large part of the rescue work in the morning was to let the firemen investigate the buildings to ensure that there are not more people there.
– But we did not find any more people, says Thomas Ljunggren.

The municipal leaders called affected residents to a meeting at City Hall on the occasion of the fire in the wooden town of Eksjö. The wooden town in the Old Town of Eksjö was founded in 1568 and is described as a unique cultural treasure with one of Sweden’s oldest cohesive wooden buildings.
