Gay Adoptions splits KD – Swedish Radio

Leading Christian Democrats defy the party leader Ebba Busch Thor when it comes to the issue of homosexuals should be allowed to adopt children. The party’s group leader in parliament, Andreas Carlson, and EU parliamentarian Lars Adaktusson are two of those who want to KD’ll stand by that same-sex couples should not be considered as adoptive parents.

Since 2003 gay couples the right to adopt.

The Christian Democrats were against the law when it was introduced – with the argument that children need both a mother and a father.

The new party leader Ebba Busch Thor has long advocated that KD should change position – and say yes to include same sex to become adoptive parents.

Here, she said the echoes The Saturday interview in February.

– Then we have children who are already in the world today, who have come to the very complicated or traumatic conditions, apparently so has no parents active in their life and you sitting in an orphanage somewhere and hope to be allowed to go to a loving family. Then there are many people who are prepared to become parents, and then I think we should seize the opportunity to provide this protection for children.

A few weeks then came the news that the party has endorsed same line.

In a response to a motion for the autumn riksting suggests leadership to gay couples – in accordance with current legislation – will be considered as adoptive parents.

But the Echo can today announce that the party is deeply divided. Heavy Christian Democrats defy their own party leader – and has reservations against the decision. Andrew Carlson – who is the newly elected group leader in parliament and chairman of the largest party district Jonkoping – is one of them, as Lars Adaktusson, Member of the European Parliament.

While Youth League – who has a place in the party – said no to the proposed course change. According KDU children should – as far as possible – to grow up with a mother and a father.

But the issue is sensitive. Members who do not turn up at the party executive decision – which echo has been in contact with – choosing not to comment.

The question decided by delegates on the party riksting in October. Several Christian Democrats who echo’ve spoken to believes that the debate about homosexuals and adoptions will be one of the hotter.
