Bjorklund challenged for the party leadership – Expressen

The Liberal Party, Jan Björklund challenged now as the leader of the party.

The party district in Västerbotten nominate Birgitta Ohlsson rival candidate in the autumn congress.

– Many want a change in the party leadership, says Maria Lundqvist-Brömster, chairman of the Liberal Party in northern Sweden, Expressen.

People Party’s leader since eight years, Jan Björklund, challenged the record.

The proposal came from the party district in Västerbotten. They now suggest that Birgitta Ohlsson will be the Liberal Party’s new leader, as the Swedish Radio was the first to report.

– There was a vote on the board where the majority wanted to Birgitta Ohlsson was nominated as party leader. First, it was discussed whether we would nominate someone to this country meeting or wait until the next. When we took a position to nominate came Birgitta Ohlsson as proposed. A majority chose her. That is what we have provided to the committee, says Maria Lundqvist-Brömster, chairman of the Liberal Party in Västerbotten, Expressen.

The decision on whether Jan Björklund will continue as party leader will be made when the Liberal Party congress in November.

“Many want a change”

Some specific dissatisfaction with Jan Björklund mentions Maria Lundqvist-Brömster not the reason. Rather, it is about individual members locally believes that the renewal of the party shall also mean a new party leader.

– Many want a change in the party leadership, the discussion has been around locally and now came up on the board, continues Maria Lundqvist-Brömster.

Lundqvist-Brömster says Birgitta Ohlsson has strong support in northern Sweden and that she was the only candidate – in addition to Jan Björklund – mentioned in the nomination process.

– A large majority chose Birgitta Ohlsson. Some other names have never been discussed at all.



With all but one

On August 20 is the last date for nominations. So far, Jan Björklund has remained unchallenged. A handful of districts have already submitted their nominations and on all but Västerbotten stands Bjorklund as a candidate.

In March Expressen tell you that many party districts planning their own party leaders voting for the upcoming country meeting. In addition, including the Liberal Party in Sigtuna municipality already demanded Jan Björklund resignation in a motion to the County Council in Stockholm.

– We are in a situation where the only sensible is to have full democracy and be sure to let members get determine how the Liberals should look in the future, said Sigtunas Councillor Dan Rosenholm Expressen then.

He also mentioned several candidates he would have preferred that the leader of the party: Birgitta Ohlsson, Cecilia Wikström, Cecilia Malmström and Maria Arnholm .

“Zlatan is a star”

Even Solna councilor, Marianne Damström Gereben and Peter Edholm, has sent a pass to Jan Björklund earlier:

“Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a star but that’s not always the national team performs best when he was included in the starting line-up. Something to think about even for the Liberal Party. “

Jan Björklund has argued that he feels a strong support in the party. Among other things, the strong support depend on him to lead the renewal that will turn the party’s public opinion crisis.

Among other things, he said:

The Liberal Party’s national congress held in Stockholm on 20 to 22 November.

Jan Björklund announced via press secretary Natalia Rylander that he declines to comment.
