The Green Party British MPs Carl Schlyter and Annika Lillemets, writes in an article in Dagens Nyheter that they see it as self-evident that Ojnare in northern Gotland should be protected by the government. The reasons they indicate is that it would ensure water supply in Dear swamps and that a national park would raise interest for visitors and put Gotland on the map internationally.
In a news article DN also states that, according to the newspaper’s sources are saying that the Green Party had with the Social Democrats on saving the area, which would mean an end to the mining of limestone. The government is expected to take the formal decision later next week, according to DN’s sources.
But there are still conflicting information on whether the question is completely settled. According to Swedish Radio’s sources, the question is whether it will become the Natura 2000 site in Ojnareskogen as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Gotland County Administrative Board suggested, now reconstituted the government.
There are according to our sources, a finished surface, but it is not clear what the government takes the decision.
