Yoga increases the quality of life for patients suffering from the attack show atrial fibrillation, according to a Swedish study.
In atrial fibrillation dryers heart does not pump blood as efficiently as it used to. For those who are severely affected, it can lead to dizziness, shortness of breath, sweating, feeling weak, nausea, fainting and chest pain.
– Many patients with attack show atrial fibrillation can not live their lives the way they want. They avoid dining with friends, concerts and travel, because they are afraid of suffering from an attack, says Maria Wahlstrom, a doctoral student at the Karolinska Institute and the nurse at Sophia Hospital in Stockholm, in a press release.
The problems faced upwards two percent of the population and have no cure. In the new study, published in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, 80 patients divided into two groups, one that received perform yoga and a control group.
After twelve weeks with a yoga class a week, patients had higher quality of life according to the questionnaire and also lower blood pressure and lower heart rate than the control group.
– Yoga can improve the quality of life for patients with attack show atrial fibrillation as it gives them a method to regain some self-control over their symptoms rather than feel helpless, Wahlstrom said in the release.
A more detailed study to examine the effects have begun.
