On Friday we become a 10-million – Swedish Radio

“According to our calculations, so we will be on the 20th of January, just before eight o’clock in the morning,” says Tomas Johansson, befolkningsstatistiker at Statistics sweden.

How do you like it here?

” We expect it out with the help of a model based on how the development has been in the last period. For the last final adjustment, we are counting up the population increase as per the minute and then the next Friday which will be the magic time

2004 was Sweden’s population of nine million and it did so 13 years before we became ten. Right now, the population is increasing approximately with a person every two minutes, all of which are registered in Sweden are counted.

During the past decade, population growth has become greater year by year and in 2016 was the year with the largest increase to date since it began to keep population statistics in the mid-1700s.

According to Statistics sweden’s forecast, the rate of increase continue for a while and we are projected to be 11 million already in about seven years, i.e. in 2024.

the Reason why we are more is particularly increased immigration, ” explains Tomas Johansson.

In the beginning it was so that it was born much more than the dog. It is really since the post-war period that immigration has become an important factor in population growth. And the last 10-20 years, it is absolutely immigration, which has been a driving force in population growth.

How much increasing we in comparison with other countries?

– We will increase relatively rapidly compared with other countries. In a comparison with the EU countries in the last five six years we are probably the top three I would think.

we Grow if any of the countries?

– we do not enough. It is still quite large differences in population size between various countries. Although we are growing rapidly, so it yet only about 100 000 to 150 000 people per year as we increase with, and then it does not happen in a jiffy, ” says Tomas Johansson, Statistics sweden.
