Löfven to Syrian refugee camps – Västerbotten Courier

The war in Syria is in its sixth year. Over half of the population has been displaced, about 280 000 people have been killed and a political solution is still far away.

Most Syrians have fled to neighboring countries. According to UNHCR, is over 4.8 million Syrian refugees in the region. 2.1 million have been registered by UNHCR in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon. 2.7 million have been recorded by the Turkish government and a further 29,000 have been recorded in North Africa.

Of the registered refugees are 50.3 percent male and 49.7 percent are women.

In Jordan, there are also many Palestinian refugees – over 2 million, according to UNRWA.
