A policy responding to needs that are in the community and conversations with voters are two ingredients in Lena Rådström Baastads recipe for success for the Social Democrats ahead of elections 2018th

When she was on Saturday elected as party secretary, she said among other things that she intends to pursue the development of the party, which she believes to be well prepared for the election.

– I look forward to the election campaign, but it will be tough, she said in her speech to the Social Democratic Party chairman who gathered at the Clarion Hotel Arlanda Airport for a conference on Saturday.

– I’m used to win choice and I plan to continue. But one does not win elections on their own. Our strength is that we are many, said Lena Rådström Baastad.

what would you change in the party?

– I think we have to think about what it is politics we go to the election. There are currently a number of working groups that will begin to come up with proposals on the political direction for the elections. We must also strengthen our party organization to meet the call and be that open movement that dares to invite and meet future challenges.

But is there anything you would change?

– this is my first day, it’s my first few minutes on the job but of course we need both courage to learn from what could have been done differently and change.

What it is important for you to focus on?

– It’s still about jobs, we have the lowest youth unemployment rate in 13 years. There are more people who go to work today compared to two years ago when the government took office. But where do we need to do more.

– It is also about immigration, we talk a lot about how we cope with the people who come to Sweden quickly get into work or training.
