– I think we were prepared for it would not be so many who went out. These are people who have been long in Sweden and is handed over to police coercion because, says Sverker Spaak, head of the Migration Board’s repatriation process.
The new law took effect June 1 and according to the everyone who have had their asylum application rid of the claims Daily payments and the accommodation of asylum seekers are entitled to.
Since the law took effect, the 2500 people who received a decision on withdrawal of aid and of them appreciate migration Board that there are between 800-900 people departed, where the migration Board therefore do not know where the people are.
it’s only about a hundred people returning, but how many have done so as a consequence of the new law is impossible to know, says Sverker Spaak.
400 cases of eviction is also right now the bailiff, as a result of the new law. One of the cases concern Noor Alhalwa and his family. They are stateless Palestinians from Iraq and believe that they have done everything possible to return, but received no of countries.
They live in an apartment as they are notified that they have to leave and where to go since they do not know.
– I think a lot and I’m very scared. I think every day, black, black. There is no white, nothing fancy, says Noor Alhalwa.
The idea of the law was to free up space on the Migration Board’s accommodation – which has taken place, but also that more people rejected their asylum application to voluntarily leave Sweden. It is about a claims Daily payments for asylum seekers who are from 26 cents a day on an accommodation where meals are included, up to 71 crowns where you yourself buy their food.
But losing a daily allowance and accommodation is not essential if returning or not, believe Sverker Spaak.
– no, I do not think it affects if it contributes to the enforcement or not.
this is about people that have had negative decision for a long time, but that is not returned, and often they are assigned to return to the country who just take back people who return voluntarily.
– But the long term consequences we do not know yet. It is clear that this can affect people who get their denials now, to a greater extent participate. But it is too early to say.
What are the difficulties with this law?
– The difficulties may of course be that there are people who continue not to participate, and do not have anywhere to stay and it is clear that it can affect the municipalities and civil society around. We have not really seen the effects yet, but it could be, says Sverker Spaak, head of the Migration Board’s repatriation process.
