Fire in residential building in Kristianstad – Aftonbladet

A fire broke out on the night of Wednesday in the attic of an apartment building on East Boulevard in Kristianstad.

Heavy smoke forced residents to evacuate – including Olivia Espersson; 21.

– My neighbor came and knocked. He saved my life, ‘she says to Aftonbladet.

The police have set up a notification of arson.

The alarm about the fire in the two-storey house in central Kristianstad added to the police at 01:20. Forces from several fire stations pulled out to the site. Accommodation in the building were evacuated shortly afterwards because of smoke in the attic, where the fire must have started.

– In total there are nine apartments and 13 people have been evacuated, said Magnus Lefevre, duty officer at the police’s Southern Region, earlier in the night.

No person has been injured in the fire. A sheltered nearby have been opened for residents.

Olivia Espersson, 21, was awakened during the night by a neighbor.

– I was awakened by a noise and it turned out to be my neighbor pounded and screamed that I would wake up. When I woke up I noticed I was having trouble breathing. It turned out that the whole apartment was filled with smoke.

she was taken to the emergency room where she received oxygen and bronchodilatory medicine.

– It was a bit shocking. Not the way you want to wake up to. I called my mom when I was standing outside the apartment and was far away, there persisted a pretty good while, says Olivia Espersson.

Police and emergency services was during the night of Wednesday in place at the apartment building.

Just before three o’clock reported the emergency to the news agency TT that they were working at full speed, but the fire was under control and that they have high hopes that soon able to finish. Somewhat later, the fire was extinguished.

“The house remained evacuated”

– We have extinguished the fire but will be retained for verification and after extinguishing all night. All accommodation is vacated and unharmed, says Anders Palsson, rescue leader at the emergency services in Kristianstad.

When the residents can return to their apartments is unclear.

– We are in the control and remediation and we will keep on with a few more hours. The house remained evacuated, said Anders Palsson.

The property will also house a dental practice.

At present there is no known cause. A report will be drawn up regarding the arson. Technical examination will also be conducted during the morning or as soon as possible.
