Charged with double murder claiming self-defense – Sveriges Radio

The 68-year-old who shot a 21 year old and a 24-year-old to death in Vallåkra in mid-October last year prosecuted now for murder.

The defense has claimed self-defense after they found the knife, iron rods and Headbands next to one of the deceased men. But prosecutors chamber Anna Broome and Kerstin Eriksson does not believe it is about exonerating self-defense. Self-defense issue will be central to the district court to consider, think Kerstin Eriksson.

– There are two people who are dead and we have a person who shot them. Since he believes that it is a self-defense situation, and that is the biggest issue the court will have to consider.

What penalty will you insist on?

– it is far too early to start speculating. Whether it is murder or manslaughter, it’s prison sentence as it is about. But I will not say today that we were put appropriate penalty, but it will first in pleading.

The two men were armed and had a balaclava. That they had a criminal intent seems obvious, but you still choose to prosecute?

– There are situations that are self-defense situations without exonerating self-defense, and that is how we resonated here.

Do you see any risk of prosecution perceived as controversial in the eyes of the public?

– the public has not received any circumstances. But of course there is a difference in a situation where there is a criminal attack in the bottom or not. What we mean that you should look at it again, we come to the trial, however, we do not think it makes the act unpunished or that in the current situation to assess the less serious, says Kerstin Eriksson.
