The committee presented in March a proposal to divide Sweden into six major regions – compared with today’s 21 counties. The new regional breakdown is intended to come into full effect in 2023.
– But we have not changed the map. Today, we mentioned what we perceive is an acceptance to implement the change before, says Kent Johansson, vice president of the division committee.
The counties that will not be part of any major region in 2019 is Dalarna, Stockholm, Gotland, Halland, Östergötland, Jönköping, Kalmar, Kronoberg, Skåne and Blekinge.
According to the map presented earlier should be included in Svealand Dalarna and Halland, Västra Götaland. The regional division has faced sharp criticism among other things, in southern Sweden. An interim report from the Classification Committee presented in June. The final report will be in August 2017.
