August 18, 2016. New party secretary
yesterday was Stefan Löfven present the executive committee’s proposal for a new party secretary. It stressed the party’s representatives. The decision is made in good order by the party about a week.
In reality, however, hardly anyone doubts how it fits together. Lena Rådström Baastad Stefan Löfvens candidate, and she will be Stefan Löfvens party secretary.
Skilled leaders
When Löfven presented Rådström Baastad he stressed that she is an experienced local politician who knows how politics affect both citizens and local politicians. She has experience in partisan cooperation, and she has won the election. In addition, she is described as a skilled leader.
Thus described Löfven, possibly unintentionally, also challenges the Social Democratic Party is facing.
The Social Democrats have, really have to, show that the government makes a difference. It must be marked both for the party’s councilors and of course the voters. Halfway through the term of office alive a sense of the change of regime created marginal changes.
The feeling is reinforced by the unclear parliamentary situation, the reversal of the asylum policy and the initial budgetary chaos. But Stefan Löfven and Magdalena Andersson have also avoided to challenge much of the legacy of Fredrik Reinfeldt and Anders Borg.
The new party secretary’s task must be to raise the political temperature around everyday issues.
can not rule on their own
at the same time the party members to accept that the Socialist party can not govern on its own. Cooperation with the Green Party tempts already hard at many Social Democrats mood, and after the next election may well require even broader agreements.
Profiling party without closing the doors to cooperation becomes a balancing act for the Social Democrats in the next election campaign. At the same time Lena Rådström Baastad thus keeping the grass roots in a good mood and create enthusiasm to knock on doors, sit in valstugor and hand out balloons.
Competent and skilled
On the whole confirms people who worked with Rådström Baastad in Örebro Löfvens picture. She is competent, skilled at cooperating and a capable leader.
Alone wins, however, no party secretary election. Sure, the party is on the ballot and campaigning. But it is government policy that the voters will decide.
With the risk to dampen the mood, we must recall another party secretary from Orebro, Moderates Kent Persson. Just over four years ago, he also entered the capital under the slogan of winning the election.
We were notoriously not very good.
