Ygeman: Forced to maintain the borders of Sweden – Swedish Radio

– This is to maintain order and security, and ensure that we do not return to the situation we had last fall with more asylum reception than we had capacity, says Anders Ygeman.

Along with Denmark, Germany and a number of other countries, Sweden has asked to extend its border controls beyond the eight months the regulations normally allow.

Requests got the green light from the EU Council of Ministers den12 May and the permit is valid for six months. So why now extends Sweden their checks to 11 November.

Sweden else had struck the roof of border controls on 12 July.

At the same time reduce the number of asylum seekers . In May, searched more than 2100 protection in Sweden. It can be compared to October last year when over 39,000 applied for asylum. Although no one knows how the situation will fall like Anders Ygeman that the checks are justified.

– This is the police who decide on the scope of border checks, they would not be needed, so can the police decide to modify the scope of them, or places for them, says Anders Ygeman.

the Danish immigration minister says the long extension today that Denmark needs to secure its borders at a time when the EU external borders are not controlled in a satisfactory way. Interior Minister Anders Ygeman agree.

– Yes, the EU has not succeeded in maintaining the external border and then we had to instead maintain the Swedish border.

Now you permission to have border controls to mid-November. Will the EU get its outer limit until then?

– I hope so, and I hope that we can return to free movement and Schengen. But there comes a difficult period now with the summer months, if the EU is able to handle the situation.

And there’s a stop for how long one can have these border checks, a maximum of two years. What do you know about Sweden reach the border, but you can not judge that the EU has control of the external border?

– I do not want to speculate on it now, but we are determined Sweden to have control of the external border. We’ll get the EU system work.
