Government extends border controls over the Sound until 11 November. Police in the South region has now been permanently strengthened to cope with the task.
According to the Interior Minister, the EU has now realized Sweden needs of border controls, which allows for an extension of a long period of one single decision.
the controls have previously been extended on a monthly basis, but according to a decision of the European Council may now extend border controls in another seven months.
the fences between tracks at Kastrup is part of the extended border controls between Denmark and Sweden.
the government will every two months to inform the Commission about the work of border controls is progressing. The checks will be carried out at different locations in the police regions, South, West, and at the Oresund Bridge, on the same terms that have taken place so far.
Police in the Southern border controls means considerable additional work. From last fall, this was solved partly by resources – both police officers and civilian employees – moved to Skåne to work. In some cases, staff had to be accommodated in the hotel.
Now the temporary reinforcement converted into a permanent one.
– Instead of lending staff, we can now expand their own employees. We no longer have the need to stay in hotels, said regional police chief Annika Stenberg.
border controls required several categories of staff. How many it concerns would not, however, regional police chief answer.
– There are some newly graduated police officers, but also more experienced. We will also recruit civilian personnel, says Annika Stenberg.
And how the police will handle the task?
– It is now decided is what we had prepared for. We will continue as normal, but the level we already have.
The extension means that border controls will be in at least a year – they were introduced for the first time on 12 November.
