Representatives of four bourgeois parties and the Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson, European Affairs Ann Linde and Cooperation Isabella Lövin starred on Monday morning in a meeting dedicated to the British voted to leave the EU.
the meeting lasted just over an hour and afterwards stood participants agreed on Sweden’s position.
– We want a good relationship with the UK, but there must also be a difference between being inside and being outside the EU, said Stefan Löfven, who pointed out that the UK has not yet made clear what relationship it wants with the EU for an exit.
after the referendum 23 June, where the majority of British people voted to leave the EU, there is great uncertainty about how and when this can actually occur. Yet the country has not submitted a formal application for withdrawal, and from the British elsewhere have mentioned that this may take until October. David Cameron announced the day after the referendum that he later in the autumn resigns as prime minister.
None of the participants in the meeting at Rosenbad did on Monday to comment on how long it should take for the UK to apply for the exit.
– can not wait to have an uncertainty for too long, however, said Stefan Löfven, which is critical to brexit-representatives’ lack of leadership.
– the which is worrying now is that we do not see any accountability from the political leadership. We hear very little from “leave” page: What does this mean? What is it they want? We have not heard anything during the campaign either, said Stefan Löfven.
Center Party leader Annie Lööf hope that the domestic political turmoil in Britain should not lead to the process being too lengthy.
– Britain must not kidnap the EU and dovetail the EU process on major issues such as migration, competitiveness and the environment. But negotiations on secession can not be started until the UK submitting their application. I obviously hope that it will start before October, said Annie Lööf.
Stockholm Stock Exchange , which kept closed the midsummer, fell at the opening on Monday morning. Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson believes that it is too early to say anything about the long term consequences of an impending brexit.
– Many people are surprised by the results and the market tends to react with some concern. But it is not always the case that the financial turmoil have long-term consequences. In the long term it’s more about the conditions under which Sweden may continue to trade with the UK.
Sweden Democrats and the Left Party was not invited to Monday’s brexit meeting, this because they do not share the other parties’ views on European integration, said Stefan Löfven.
– the Left has indicated that they want to renegotiate EU membership and the Sweden Democrats want a referendum in Sweden. Our view is that this is not what Sweden needs now.
– The four bourgeois parties and government parties agree that EU cooperation needs to be and that we need a stability and continuity of the cooperation, said Stefan Löfven .
Jonas Sjöstedt critical of the government’s actions.
– I think it is wrong to exclude those who are critical of the EU. We need to debate.
Have you received any justification from the government that you were not invited?
– No, and it’s surprising. We have clear ideas of a good working relationship with the UK. We want continued free trade and labor mobility. The government has not invited us is an unnecessary mark.
