The fire in the LKAB mine is off – Västerbotten Courier

The rescue has extinguished the fire for several hours going in LKAB’s mine, more than 1000 meters under the ground, in Kiruna.

– But you still have to take account of the smoke. The valve is now out and then be roads in the mine inspected before work can resume, says Kajsa Lindmark, communications officer at LKAB, said.

According to police, the fire must have started in a truck. Some 400 miners were evacuated. Some came above ground, while others were evacuated to safe areas in the mine.

– 243 pieces are still underground, says Kajsa Lindmark.

Four people have been subjected to at the hospital in Kiruna, but according to an email from the county council’s communications department, the four have already been released from the hospital.
