Unmanned spacecraft to Mars already in 2018 – Swedish YLE

The private space company Space X is planning to send an unmanned spacecraft to Mars already in 2018.

The experiment is seen as a major step in the right direction for the founder Elon Musk. He wants namely sending people to other planets and it requires more advanced technology than is available today.

The project called “Red Dragon” and the capsule that will land on Mars called Dragon 2.

Dragon 2 is designed to land anywhere in the solar system. The journey to Mars will be the first test flight, Musk tweeted.

Musk would at present still not recommending travel beyond the moon because the interior of the capsule is as big as an SUV.

The company will provide more information about the Mars project in September.

Elon Musk founded Space X in 2002 and for a few weeks, the company made a successful rocket landing on a platform in the Atlantic Ocean.
