– It is a very serious development. I will therefore that the authorities take over this task, says Henrik Rørbæk, CEO of HH-Ferries.
The Danish police in Elsinore has so far pulled out of almost ten alarms from the ferries if people tried to board without passing through the ID checks by the shipping company under Swedish law is liable to implement since 4 January.
– Our view is that there are people who think that they can come to Sweden, but when they are rejected by the guards as they try another way, says Henrik Hattel, commissioner of police in Elsinore.
So far, five people have been arrested and fined. Some of them had already applied for asylum in Denmark, but wanted to Sweden. Someone had no right to reside in Denmark and have been detained and sent back to the first EU country they arrived to seek asylum there, says Henrik Hattel.
The Swedish police have not found someone who actually managed to cross the Sound in this way.
Now, the shipping company HH-ferries in a letter to its customers to be alert. Henrik Rørbæk want the Swedish police to make traffic stops, either in Helsingborg or Elsinore, in the same way as today takes place on the Öresund Bridge.
– When you can combine border control and traffic control, says Henrik Rørbæk.
